Make Your Own Wicking Bed Workshop @ The SAC

Not much space or time to grow vegies? Short on water? A wicking bed is a self watering garden bed made entirely from recycled materials to give you an efficient way to grow food in a small space. This workshop shows you how to make a wicking bed from a polystyrene box, complete with soil mix, ready to take home to plant out.

Upcycle Mosaic Classes suitable for beginners @ The SAC Craft Room

Using predominately old crockery, china, jewellery and ceramics oddments, learn how to create mosaic masterpieces.
Learn age-old skills from our experienced mosaic artisan and teacher.
Over four weeks (and ongoing thereafter if you are hooked) make pieces like jewellery, brooches, clocks, vases, urns, planters, bird baths or sculptures.
Basic tools provided, material kits available to purchase.
$25 per 3 hour session or $90 for 4 weeks.
(Not suitable for children under 15)

The green revolution has officially taken hold. It is estimated that 2/3 of the world’s energy will be generated by sustainable sources over the next thirty years. This profound transition will likely affect our politics, culture and way of life in a manner we cannot yet fully predict. Nevertheless, Beyond the Green Horizon attempts to do just that.

Humans have been trying to control nature for quite some time, and our influence has become more and more dramatic. In fact, it is now so strong that following years of research and monitoring, an international group of geologists are suggesting we introduce a new age, The Age of Mankind or The Anthropocene Period.
What awaits us in this new age?

Whether you are wanting to learn, re-learn or just crochet in the company of others, this casual gathering is just the thing. Supply your own yarn and hook (size 5 is good for beginners) or borrow from the SAC supplies.

This session is free and everyone is welcome. Come for an hour or come for the whole session. On every Thursday except during December and January.
